Here’s what you can expect from our tooth extraction treatment:
Surgical extraction can be performed for impacted wisdom teeth or teeth that are broken at the gumline. This entails making an incision in your gum to reach your tooth and then removing it.
We may recommend tooth extraction for the following reasons:
No. Most extractions are done under local anesthesia to keep you from pain. General anesthesia may be used for wisdom teeth or multiple tooth extraction, which puts you to sleep for your procedure. Prescription or OTC pain medication can help relieve pain, swelling, or soreness you experience after your procedure.
A simple extraction can be completed fairly quickly, often within 30 to 40 minutes. Surgical extractions may take a little longer. At your initial consultation, we can estimate a time frame for your treatment.
Yes. We highly recommend that someone accompany you for this treatment and take you home after your procedure.
Schedule several days off work to rest after treatment, as resting promotes quicker healing. Be careful not to disturb the blood clot that forms at the extraction site, as it helps your gums heal. Add ice packets to your cheeks to reduce swelling, and rinse with warm salt water to ease pain. Take any prescription medications you’re given to promote quicker healing. For 2–3 days, eat soft foods like soup, scrambled eggs, yogurt, applesauce, cottage cheese, etc. to maintain your strength during recovery. Avoid using a straw, smoking, and drinking alcohol during recovery. You can return to normal activities within 2 to 3 days with proper care. Complete healing after extraction may take several weeks.
